J. J. Finley Elementary School

 

J. J. Finley Elementary School is in the heart of the University Park Neighborhood. It is a neighborhood school with an active PTA and a high level of parent involvement.

J. J. Finley in among the finest schools in the county and has earned a reputation statewide for excellence.

The student body is a reflection of the rich ethnic and international diversity of the Gainesville and university community.

J. J. Finley is committed to helping students reach their academic potential. The school's curriculum emphasizes strategies that support critical thinking and problem solving. The latest technology is a component of most classes.

The Faculty
More than 30 faculty members at J.J. Finley are noted for their creativity and innovation. The Finley Flyer newsletter and the school's webpage are widely used to inform parents of school activities. Certain days each year are set aside for parent conferences and feedback. A support staff of some 30 people helps assists in the educational process.

J. J. Finley has an after school program that provides a study hall, activities, and supervision for students until their parents pick them up in the early evening.

The Media Center has one of the highest checkout rates per student for library use in Alachua County. Last year, the school had the highest number of books checked out of all the schools in Alachua County. Expanded in 1996, the teachers' production area and increased floor space for bookshelves have been a great boon.

The school offers music education, art education, physical education skills, gifted education, Exceptional Student Education, Title-I services, speech pathology services, ESOL services, a behavior resource teacher and a curriculum resource teacher.
